Solitaire Diamonds
Books and movies often describe treasure as being found in great troves, be it a chest or a dragon's cave! Running one's hands through a mass of gemstones - especially diamonds is an appealing image. In reality the most famous treasures are often single spectacular diamonds. In the real world many people also prefer to buy a (rather smaller) solitaire diamond ring, pendant or other piece of jewelry rather than one festooned with excessive "bling". It's really a matter of style - the solitaire diamond is rather understated and as such can be even more impressive than a glittering mass of ice.
What Is A Solitaire Diamond?
A solitaire diamond is a single diamond set on its own. The name "solitaire" doesn't in itself imply anything else about the stone - it's possible to have a tiny solitaire or a huge stone, plain colour or fancy, any cut, etc. Solitaire simply means that it stands alone. That said, solitaire diamond is sometimes accompanied by other gems.Since the single diamond stand alone and will be the centre of attention it needs to be of good quality. When buying a solitaire piece you should pay even more attention than usual to the quality of the stone in terms of the "four Cs" - Carat, Colour, Clarity, Cut. In general aim to buy the best you can reasonably afford.
You also need to consider the setting. It should also be of the best possible quality and should enhance the look of the stone rather than swamp or detract from it. There's little point getting a gorgeous stone in a tacky setting. As always this is a matter of personal taste, however white gold and platinum are popular choices.
The essence of the solitaire diamond is"quality over quantiity".
