Leprechaun Gold
Pots of gold, often at the end of the rainbow, have always been associated with the Irish leprechaun - whether or not he's wearing the stereotypical green coat!
What Is A Leprechaun?
The leprechaun is an Irish member of the fey folk - the fairies or little people. In folklore the leprechaun is usually an old man, often a cobbler by trade. He's known as something of a trickster who by fair means or foul has accumulated considerable wealth. This is often described as being in the form of a crock of gold which, according to some accounts, is buried at the end of the rainbow.
Leprechaun Gold
Given the leprechaun's legendary wealth it is perhaps not surprising that many people have attempted to find their golden stash. Sometimes this involves tracking the leprechaun, sometimes tricking him - and sometimes capturing him.It has been said that if you catch a leprechaun then he'll give you his gold in exchange for his freedom. However you need to be very careful - the little man is a crafty negotiator and will do his best to con you. One favourite trick of his is to use a magical form of fool's gold - coins that appear to be solid gold but which turn to stone at the next break of day.
Leprechaun hunting might sound like an easy path to riches but by all accounts the path is likely to end at an unwelcome destinaton.
